F72 GYB (formerly PSU 610) 1989 Kassbohrer-Setra rear-engined (Mercedes V6) 28 seater. Took part (with our driver Kenny, who collected it from the factory when new) in the British Coach Rally in 1989 and won the "Executive Coach of the Year" award.
The "Silver Ghost", as it looked when competing in the 35th British Coach Rally
It has carried countless personalities, celebrities and politicians, including Lord King (Chairman of BA and Babcock Engineering, during the building of the Torness nuclear power station), Mrs Rockefeller and son (for the Countess of Richmond and party private tour of art collections and the Tate Gallery Liverpool), Tina Turner and David Bowie (EMI promotion film), Jerry Lee Lewis (UK music tour), INXS and Kylie Minogue (UK music tour), Neil Armstrong (Edinburgh Science Fair), Ben Crenshaw, Lee Trevino and Jack Nicklaus (private golf tour with friends), Nigel Mansell, Jackie Stewart, Ayrton Senna, Mario Andretti, Jacques Villeneuve, Niki Lauda and others (Jackie Stewart charity shoot at Gleneagles), Richard Branson (Virgin promotion golf, Gleneagles), John Cleese and Michael Palin (Edinburgh Festival comedy and book promotion), Lord Lichfield (Unipart Calendar on Isle of Eriskay), James Bolam and Barbara Flynn (filming the TV series "Beiderbecke Tapes"), Roger Bannister MP (first man to run the 4 minute mile) and, of course, Kenny Hall (Driver Extraordinaire) and David Dean (grand purveyor of nostalgic conveyance!).
Provides extra leg-room, great visibility and smooth, quiet progress. It has air suspension, independent at the front ABS (anti-lock braking) and has both exhaust brake and hydraulic retarder (for safe mountain descents!). Air conditioning, extra Webasto heating oil-fired heating, toilet facilities, etc. A very nimble coach, well suited to the tortuous roads we encounter...
It has taken well over a year to restore the coach to A1 condition.
